Sometimes bands don’t age well. Sometimes they have a few smash-hits and then disappear into obscurity; sometimes they last a little while longer, but just seem to lose their touch.
There are those, and then there’s The Smashing Pumpkins - the band with volatile, raw, and unique vocal deliveries, superhuman drumming tinged with jazz-finesse, bursts of masterful guitarwork, and virtuosity on parade. They are an insanely powerful live act, armed with immense skill and a wall of sound that hits like a ton of bricks; they maintain a delicate balance between the classic alt-rock tracks, complex newer material, and highly-stylized covers; and are theatricality and spectacle personified.

Billy Corgan and his henchmen have literally smashed the music scene’s pumpkins to smithereens when they broke into international fame with their debut album Gish in 1991, and their subsequent album Siamese Dream in 1993. It was, however, 1995’s double-album Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness that cemented them as a global phenomenon - a force to be reckoned with. The album, with its mish-mash of genres, debuted at the top of the Billboard 200, and achieved diamond status. Apart from this, this iconic album earned The Smashing Pumpkins seven Grammy Award nominations of which they received one award, was ranked on Rolling Stone’s list of The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time, and earned the 26th position on their list of The Greatest Grunge Albums of All Time.
Now, three decades later, The Smashing Pumpkins are hitting the road on their most ambitious outings yet - a 27-date celebration that will see the iconic band perform Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness from top to bottom in one set, and some of their most career-defining hits, deep cuts, and plenty of surprises in a second set. The The Rats In A Cage Tour is slated to kick off at the end of September 2026 in Columbus, Ohio, with stops in all the major cities, including Baltimore, Hamilton, Madison, Charlotte, Indianapolis, Denver, Calgary, Phoenix, and Inglewood on the itinerary before wrapping up in mid-November 2026 in Huntington Beach, California.
