Emerging from Sweden in 2006, Ghost is most known for their melodic and clean vocals coupled with heavy riffing influenced by hard rock and heavy metal. Ghost also delivers a unique aesthetic, capturing the look of religious figures. Lead singer Tobias Forge used to be anonymous and went by many pseudonyms including Papa Emeritus, Papa V Perpetua, and Cardinal Copia. The band members are known as the ghouls. In 2015, the band made their breakthrough in the US when “Cirice” went to number 4 on the Mainstream Rock chart. The following year, the band topped the same chart with “Squarehammer,” from the album Popestar. Two years later, Ghost continued their winning streaks with number 1 hits “Rats” and “Dance Macabre” spawned from their fourth album Prequelle. In 2025, Ghost topped the Billboard 200 for the first time with the release of Skeleta.
